I will admit that I suck when it comes to turkey hunting. Took my son Saturday for his first youth season opener and we heard several gobblers but never saw one. Did have a couple hens come to decoys and that had him excited and wanting to go again Sunday. Up early again Sunday morning only to be disappointed with only seeing a couple birds about 400yrds away and couldn’t get any closer.
Last night he asks if I will take him today. Well I couldn’t say no so off we went this morning. This time the stars aligned perfectly. Setup close to 4 gobblers on the roost and softly called twice to get a reaction. Shortly after a tom comes out and goes straight to the decoys and starts attacking the Jake decoy. He steadied the 870 20ga. and when the Tom showed his head he squeezed off and folded him at 20yrds. Couldn’t be more proud of him.
