calibrating the compass on a livescope system

Would someone mind clarifying this procedure?

    1. Trolling motor in the water (transducer is mounted on the shaft)
    2. Turn the boat 1.5 times in a circle. (with big motor or trolling motor -
It appears with the instructions on the unit I should use the big motor)

    Thanks

It also says to turn off power to tm,it took about 7-8 times for mine to calibrate.

Definitely use the big motor if your LS is on or near the TM. The TM will put out an electrically-induced magnetic field that will mess up the calibration procedure and it may not be as accurate. I drop y TM in the water, start the calibration procedure, and spin with the big motor. Mine only took about 1 turn to finish.

While it sounds safer to use you big motor it also seems that if the TM messes up the compass during calibration then it messes it up during operation. Does the compass fluctuate when you have your TM on?

Mine does not fluctuate when the TM is on.

No it does not affect the livescope but the head of the trolling motor does mess with it when the livescope is on

You can calibrate i in the trailer if you can rotate the transducer by hand.
Mine is on a separate pole

This is the correct way to do it. The magnetic fields induced by running the trolling motor can throw off the calibration, so ideally you use the big motor. The sensor software tries to ignore the TM interference during use but it needs a good clean base line of what the earth’s field looks like in the setup without the interference.
