I’m mounting a helix 7 side imaging to my 03 185VS. Should I place the transducer on the setback underneath above the drain plug or on the back of my transom?

What is a 185VS?

A ranger 2003 185VS, should have made that more clearer, sorry
Yes, the best application for that hull is the SI transducer under the transom extension and a shoot-thru 2D transducer in the bilge.
Which shoot-thru would be determined by which of the three generations Helix 7 SI units you have.

I own a 481 VS with the extended transom, this is where I got mind mounted. You need to check out Shield & Saver they have a wedge that they sell. I've got the mega transducer mounted and it does a real good job. Don't have to worry about getting broken off.
