Who sells Deka Batteries in SE Michigan?

Looking to purchase a new starting battery and since my last one (Deka marine master starting 27m6) held up for 16 years, I'm hoping to purchase the same. I called the factory but they are on Covid19 lock down and couldn't tell me where to buy one. Does anyone know who sells this brand in the Metro Detroit area? Lowes list the brand but not that model on their website. They do have the 24 series and will deliver but not sure if that will be to small for my 150 Optimax.

NAPA brand batts are made by East Penn/DEKA... Same battery.. Reserve on line and save 10% at the store.

But if you can fit a group 29/31, I suggest the model 7234. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NBP7234

Compare the specs to other batts..

By the way... CCA/Cold Cranking Amps are rated at 0* for vehicles... CA/Cranking Amps are rated at 32* like all marine batteries called MCA/Marine Cranking Amps because boats generally are not used in these temps.

Just so you can compare apples to apples. Your OPTI needs 1000 CA/MCA min.... With lots of reserve for your acc/depth finders.

Mike is spot on, that Napa battery is very good. Not sure if they are open, but north bay marine sells Dekas. They are on east side of Jefferson just south of the Salt river.

That battery is even better than the one you're replacing which has really good specs for a 27. My Phoenix came with that for a cranker.

So Johnson Controls don't make the MAXX 29 any longer? Do the new DEKA/East Penn models look the same? I may be in the market.

    When did this change happen?

Sometime last year they started showing up.

I’ve heard there may be some variation in different areas, but everywhere I’ve seen has had the East Penn’s. The JCI battery vent caps have beveled corners. East Penn are rectangular.

That 27M6 is a good battery with better specs than other 27s. Though I have gone through two of them in four years first being a dealer battery.

Once you learn why it's better to have the biggest battery you can fit in your boat, Then you can get the best service from them. The more you leave in the battery between charges, The longer they last. More life cycles, More years... Yes a group 27 will get you through most days, But you are killing years off the batteries life... These charts makes it easier to understand.

FYI... A Deep cycle will crank, But a Cranking battery will not deep cycle... As long as the deep cycle will meet the starting requirements of the motor, They have more RC that runs everything on the boat except the troller...

I'm probably just going to pick up the commercial 31 series from Napa (mentioned above) once the lock down is lifted. Looks like the original 27 series starting with 1000 CA is no longer made and the newer 27 series deep cycle / starting only has 800 CA.
