    20i Trolling Motor Size

I think I have a bad issue with my old Fortrex 101. It works when stowed but not deployed. It's the original unit that came with the boat in 2008, so it may be time for an upgrade.

Currently I have a 52" shaft but I find it too long for the skinny water I fish. I have to raise it up quite a bit. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a 112 Fortrex but a 45" shaft?

I would contact Jones Trolling Motor (sponsor here), very knowledgeable and helpful.

Put a 45" 112" on last night. Installed easily, with a little help from my 12 year old son just holding the shaft as I tighted the 2 bolts I couldn't get to while stowed. Dropped the boat in the river and runs like a charm! Even with a little chop it never came out of the water.

    I had a 20i and needed the 52" but I fish big/tidal water quite a bit.

I have a 20.i and you have to have a 52 '' shaft on any of the larger lakes especially on Winnie I would be bringing that 45 back as soon as posable

Sounds like you would be happy with a 45 inch shaft. If you fish shallow water the majority of the time that is the route to go.

I went with the 45” and couldn’t be happier. I’ve fished with the longer shafts and they end up being in the way 99% of the time. I fish kentucky lake, Chick, Gville, and Cumberland even in nasty weather. Almost never will the motor come out of the water if I’ve got it dropped down. I can see where somebody fishing some of the swells that tend to hide the boat between waves in pictures but outside of that, I couldn’t stand the extra length of the 52”.
