CMC jackplate problems . Help ?

I have a older cmc gud jackplate on one of
my boats that is acting up . It will work fine sometimes and wont
gkmeither direction other times . I did
manage to get it act up in my shop long enuff to narrow down the actuator . I back probed the power at the disconnect in bilge. I rigged up a headlamp bulb and it burned good and brite when working switch in both directions. My question is are the brushes easily accessible with actuator removed ? Can they be replaced ?

I had one many years back and I was told to just replace the actuator unit. Not worth taring appart.
