    Pitching Reel

I need recommendations for a new pitching reel. My OLD Quantum Burner finally bit the dust. That reel was bulky but the spool would spin forever. I'm looking for something compact and not too expensive. The Daiwa Pitch/Flip looks nice, but I don't pitch enough to justify a $249 reel.

The Daiwa Tatula SV is $199.00 and is a great choice for pitching as well. The Daiwa Fuego is tough to beat also.

I've been using a 8.3:1 Lew's for several seasons loaded with 50 pound braid. It's been terrific.

Tat sv all day. It's what I have on my pitching rod and after using it for the past 2 years, its held up great and I haven't had any issues.

The new 2020 Tatula SV TW is an impressive reel all the way around, but it pitches/skips exceptionally well. They are on sale at The Tackle Trap with the BBC10 discount code and have a HUK Performance shirt promotion going on right now too.

Here is a link to the sale and details in the reels for sale section here on BBC.

    I'd recommend a Curado/Scorpion 70.

That might be quite a while longer since it was probably made in Japan.

I use a Daiwa Tatula Elite, it's made specifically for this.

I have both the Tatula SV TW and the Elite Pitch/Flip. The Tatula SV TW will work great as a pitching reel, but I have to say I've been really impressed with the Pitch/Flip and would go that route if you are able to. You can use The Tackle Trap discount and get it for $225 instead of $250.

My choice would be the Abu Garcia sx or the tatula series, have both and love them.

I think that if you want a budget reel (less use time) for flipping and pitching that is compact, you could also go with a Shimano SLX XG. I really think it’s hard to find a better reel for $99. It’s got the older version of Shimano’s breaking system, so really can set it and forget it. It’s also compact, and smaller than a Curado.

I like the Quantum Smoke S3 or Smoke HD. I don’t like drags that slip on hook sets with flipping and pitching.
