    looks like part of the cable that connects the lower unit to the mid section just for ground.

    Trim up and you will see a broken grease zerk on the swivel tube. The zerk is used to hold the wire.

    It is a bonding cable. Not a ground cable.

    Once the motor model is known you can use the Yamaha parts catalog to determine what goes where. Perhaps not the OP's particular model but in general it looks like this"

    Sorry, it’s a 2000 vmax ox66 225 I got it back from a mechanic from replacing the power and only used it maybe twice in 2 years, I was gonna just put the cable back where it goes, it hasn’t broke off or anything I’m just not sure where it mounts. There is another cable attaching behind a nut in the same area so I was wondering if it was the same.
