Networking two units with different software updates

What are the possible effects of networking two units thathave different software versions?
I currently have a GN2, 360 and ultrex with I pilot link, updatedto software v 1.6. I recently purchased a used GN2 that has software v1.9. I plan on adding the new unit to my networkas soon as I get the hardware. In the pastI had a friend that would do my updates but he’s not available. Eventually I’ll get the most recent update installed but in the meantime I want to get the network hooked up as long as it won’t cause any problems.

I don’t think that they play well unless they have the same software. I know my Solix units don’t.
