So I hit the water after rolling my 106sv back to 8.3 and GLS 10 back to 2.00. At first, I was kind of disappointed as things really didn’t change that much. In fact, it appeared that things might have got worse. So I reseted the GLS 10 and that seemed to have improved things. I’m at a point now where I’m between somewhat and mostly satisfied.

Indeed. I've helped several in the past week with GPSMAP series units, and the feedback is 2.20 is the version to run.

I finally got this to work by deleting the xml file, but a word of caution. When I did this and my 7610 restarted it was like it was new out of the box. I had to reset all my preferences and although I haven't checked, my guess is I lost all my gpx files. I have a lot of that, but not all, backed up so I'm not too concerned with it. I know it is recommended to back all personal settings before doing a update. I have in the past but have never needed it UNTIL NOW. Just a heads up..

Hoping that is the same for me but won't be on the water for a few days. I did lose all my waypoints and tracks but not too concerned with that!

That's great news but hard to explain. I'm sure you saw my post comparing 2.1 and 2.33 and I couldn't find any differences. I recorded that and posted links to the videos that I based that statement on. Then Todd posted "In their testing, the engineers have not observed any difference in LiveScope behavior between the version 2.20 and 2.33". Do you suspect that there is a difference in performance of echomap units and GPSMAP unit? My comparisons were done on a GPSMAP unit. Do you think that the Reset Defaults that occured in the forced update had anything to do with it? Are you suggesting that the engineers are incorrect as to their statement?

My tests were not comprehensive, nor conclusive as all the videos were done at the same depth, same location so with different terrain or at a different depth certainly different results might be obtained. If my tests accidentally happend to be conclusive and Garmin engineers are correct, then I would expect that a forced update would have to go all the way back to 2.00 to see much of a difference based purely on software version.

My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

LW, Not sure what you're asking/saying

2.20 was the last good update before the Perspective update.

That's ok. Probably just a can of worms anyway.

How did you force it Monte? I hear different opinions.

OK I have tried repeatedly to update my 93sv plus software to version 2.20 without success. I have re-formatted the SD card again, wiping out all the existing data. I then re-installed the software I want to download a couple of times. Still no response. The screen just sits there on the recovery loader ready screen after I boot up holding the power+4 button. Just booting up with the power button does nothing. Any other ideas? Maddening...

Brian, I am having the same problem. I have been able to do this previously, but for some reason cannot get past that first screen.

Does your SD card have only the Garmin folder on it?
The Garmin folder should have only 2 files in it.
    GUDATE.GCD and the updates file.

That was the problem I had also, I deleted the xml file and downloaded the remainder to a sd card, then all went smooth. I did loose all my waypoints and tracks so do a back up first.
