    Power Wrapper

I am having some issues with my pac bay power wrapper. It almost seems the potentiometer in the foot pedal is going bad. No matter where I adjust the potentiometer at the motor it seems my foot pedal will creep to full power or jump to full power from next to nothing. I can get the rod started spinning at maybe 3rpm then go to increase the speed and just the slightest increase on pressure of the foot pedal it jumps to 30 or 40 rpms. That is with the motor adjustment at a little over half way. So has anyone had a foot pedal to go bad on a power wrapper or is there something else I should check? I use to feel pretty confident I could control it but after the last rod build or 2 I don't feel I can. I have built around 20 rods with this wrapper if that has any affect.

I always wondered if a fan dimmer switch or router speed controller would work on these?

Thanks for the input. The foot pedal is hard wired into the motor. Here is a pic of a replacement foot pedal.

Seems easy enough to cut the female plug off and hard wire it... Maybe the original replacement isn't expensive...

Had the same problem with my Custom Power Wrapper. I purchased a better quality electronic pedal for a sewing machine. ( Most wrappers use sewing machine motors. ) Solved the problem completely. Wrapper is more controlable now than when it was new.

Is there any specific brand that is better quality? Or are the sewing machine ones in general better quality than what comes with the wrappers?

I saw a ton of sewing machine models, All of them had brand specific/different plugs on the pedal that mate to the brand sewing machine....

I know there are several different brands/models for sewing machine. Would think just cut the plug off and wire into my current wiring. Just trying to figure out if one brand is better.

I too have a Pac Bay wrapper and had the same symptoms that you described. I thought it was the foot pedal as well. Turned out it was the potentiometer at the motor. Replaced that and haven't had a problem since. I am intrigued about the better control with a sewing machine pedal though.

Definitely going to look into that.
