    Hill Drag 5 Modified arrived

I sold a Pro Max and a Bravo 1 FS and purchased a Hill Signature prop. It is call the Drag 5 Mod and has a lot of the same running characteristics as the Max 5 St. Half the price though. I have high hope for a good hole shot and top end. I'll know in a couple days.......

    Still chasing the Rabbit....lol

    Thats one mean prop!
Your progress has been both exciting and educational. Thought mentality was less blades, faster speeds.
Now your up to 5 blades to gain both hole shot and top speed. Im sure it has to do with the SM LU and running the engine higher than normal for a BCB.

With the engine above the usual PTP, is the steering stiff, or does that SM change that?

The SM Case will even overcompensate for engine heights and can get loose.

I would say that it actually changes it. The last time I ran it I had the jack plate set at 4 out of 1-6 on the Bob's and took the Pro Max up to 84 mph. That was all I was getting and just decided to raise it a little more. Went to a little over 5 and she picked up another 4 mph and quick. My measurements show about 1.75 above pad at that setting and I still had over 20 pubs of water pressure. I can feel torque on the wheel as I accelerate but when I get up to speed (84+) it goes away or my adrenaline just does not let me notice it. I feel more comfortable with an extra blade in the water if I am going to run at those heights. Not sure what I am going to if this one flops.....lol

I guess when you think about big offshore power boats run 5-7 or 7+ blades sometimes. WE NEED VIDEO!!!

Crank68 I am holding off on a report until I get the prop back. I was not getting the hole shot that i wanted and tested it on a pretty choppy day with up to 25 mph wind gust. Still hit mid 80's and mid range was good. I will give a full report when I get the prop back and a couple good runs with it. Side note: I am .8 MPH from 90 now. That was with a 30 Bravo and light on gas.

What rpm are you turning with that 30? My 2020 Eyra with 250 ProXS and the standard TM l/u runs virtually identical speeds (80-81mph) with a 24, 25 & 26p Fury 3. But holeshot and mid-range throttle response etc...is way better with the lower pitched props. Yes, it's on the limiter with the 24p when at just over 80mph....but since most of the day is not spent at top end/WFO, the acceleration and response was well worth the trade down to lower pitch #'s/ (ie...lower gearing essentially)

FASTCAT, I am turning the 30 to over 6300 and anything lower I hit the limiter. I believe the difference between ours is the lower unit. The higher I take the Sport Master the faster I go vs the Torque Master that you have to leave below the pad. The mid range is great with all of the props I have tried so far so not real worried about that. I am looking for a good hole shot and decent top end for my everyday prop and would like another with ok hole shot and great top end. I am chasing the rabbit for the over 90 mark and believe that if I can get my slip numbers down and the right day I will hit it. With all of the props it is very easy to run 84-85 and the boat get there quick and cruise.
If you want a little better on top I would get away from the Fury prop. They are great all round work horses but not the best you can have. The prop experiment is expensive but fun. I have found that is easiest on the bank to buy used and sell before you pick up another. I do how ever have two new ones on the way....and while one is being built they are sending me a loner just to play with....lol

Elwood....thank you for sharing !!!!! I understand my TM l/u and standard 250 ProXS fishing motor are no match for the 300R & SM l/u. However I'm super impressed with your time, efforts, research and results !!!! Excellent read to follow along with !!!!!

I don't know what kind of time frame you are on but I have also been in contact with the guys at Hydramotive. They are cranked back up and making props again. They are building a prop for me as we speak. I should have in a couple weeks.

I have been enjoying your pursuit of the 90 mph mark. Getting very close.

Your speaking of other props in lieu of the Fury series. I wonder how a Hydromotive Intimidator T-4X in the 24 pitch would perform on my PII?

Keep in mind at those speeds aero drag is just as important as hydro drag. I haven't seen a photo of the rig, but you might have things mounted, like a large front graph, that is hurting speed.

I have a Fourtrex 112 and a 9 inch Elite on the front. It is some weight and drag but not as much as some. I am actually having some voltage issues with the motor or the main battery so I have the boat in the shop. Hope to be back on the hunt soon. The Hydrodynamics was pretty good all round prop that I am sending back in for a little more work and the All should arrive this week. Hope I get my boat back soon! Lousianan is opening back up and the tournaments are starting....damn boat is down.....just my luck

That is the same prop that I ordered in a 29 pitch but they talked me into the P-5. The 4X will not start production until July. I believe that it would be a great choice for the P-II
