Need help with tilt trim

I have a 188 VX 2008 ranger my tilt trim has been acting up I replaced the relay I was out fishing yesterday and it got stuck in down position the trim motor kept running I shut my main breaker off unhooked the wire from the relay and fished the rest of day when I went to load the boat I turned the screw on the trim motor to try to raise it by hand when I turned the screw back it started working the boat has a150 Yamaha hpdi vmax any help would be appreciated

I had the same problem with my E-tec. The trim swithch in the motor was bad ( wet?) Disconnected and everything was fine. Replaced switch, no more issues.
