I would get a cheap test light and see for myself, if I was you. Really a handy tool to have around the house for other projects too.

Purple wire is hot when the key is on and runs power to your guages. Not the best place to hook up electronics.
I'm not sure of the context of your ask but you should have a terminal block to run power from.
