    2004 Mercury XR6 OT835115

I bought a used 2004 Mercury XR6 about 8 months ago. On the test drive it seemed like it was missing above 4000rpm. We took to mechanic he said he replaced the timing control module. It ran like a top for about 8 months. Now it is doing same thing. I have learned alot about this engine since then. I pulled the cowl off and I see a blue box right away I know this is not a Mercury part. It is a CDI electronics 144-7185. Are these junk? Can they be deleted? I read where on some engines this can be removed and timing set at a constant degree? First post. I hope it is easily understood.
    TIA

On your motor they can not be removed, it was on earlier models that that could be done. My suggestion is to replace it with a Mercury part, seems the CDI parts from what I have read (no personal experience) don’t always last very long.
