I also made/invented an engine storage cradle that will fit any engine that weighs less than 1500 lbs except the slant 6 (may fit it but I don't have one to check).
It is fully adjustable and when not in use folds up to about the size of 2 pizza boxes sitting on top of each other, so you can slide it in anywhere out of the way. Also has wheels to rolling it around when loaded.
It's been holding my 4.0 spare jeep engine for 5 yrs now, and I didn't notice till I put the engine on it that I never welded fully the main frame...it's only tacked, and it still works fine.
Just can't show it as I may still go for a patent on it.....everyone who has seen it wants 2 or 3 for them to use, but if I make them and give or sell them I lose the ability to later get a patent.
I also have plans for adapters to use with it that will let it function as a transmission/transfer case/axle housing cradle as well.

Welded a piece of square tubing to my engine hoist that matched up to the receiver on my truck. I just lift up the hoist and insert the tube into the receiver like im installing a ball hitch. I then use some ratchet straps to loop from the hoist to either the bed tie downs or the 5th wheel hookups.
I can use it like a home crane. Have used it to move around all sorts of stuff.
Its definitely redneck but it works.
Not an invention, but some shop tips....
1) find some old brake shoes and use them as wheel chocks, and if you put the curved side towards the tire, it will also keep hoses and cords from getting pinched/stuck by the tires
2) when you remove a transmission, find some bolts the same diameter and pitch as the top 2, but longer by 2-3 inches.....cut the heads off of them and round the end, and thread them into the top 2 hole in the block by hand (don't go too far, you need to be able to remove them by hand).....you now have 2 long guides in addition to the block dowels and torque converter or input shaft.......and once you have the bell housing on them you can let them hold the trans up while you give your arms a break

I always like to come up with my own ideas. Here are a couple recent (TM transducer holder/protector and something to keep leaves out of my pool skimmer. I looked and asked all over. Nobody sold anything. Got some ideas then thought of this with PVC pipe and plastic crate. Easily best thing I’ve ever made. Certain times of year my skimmer would clog multiple times a day. I can now go forever. Leaves sink but who cares. Also made something to help my putting stroke stay online out of pvc. Changed me from a bad putter to a great putter 20 years ago.)

Not an invention, just something for convenience. When I first started replacing the impeller on my Mercury, I need something to hold the lower unit. I already had a Workmate 550 sitting in the garage and with a some adjustments of the boards it works out pretty good. Added a some scrap plywood to level it and keep it secure. I need to pressure test my lower unit and will give this a shot for that too.
