    Outboard Rigging Tube

I need to install new rigging tube on my outboard cables and was looking at a couple different options. Wanted to see what everyone else has done.

Thought about doing spiral wrap on it, but I've seen some nicer tube on some yamaha and suzuki stuff that I like better than whats currently on my Mercury.

    Pics welcome.

I just ordered the Merc one from Great Lakes Skipper. I've learned there are a few options out there by googling it.

I bought a new boat from Fredrick’s Marine in Decatur AL and they used what appears to be an industrial sized cable wrap as a rigging tube. It allows you to run new cables without disconnecting everything. It is very sturdy too. The only negative is that is has scratched the splash well gelcoat but that does not bother me. You might want to call them and see what they use.

I don't think there is anyway to avoid scratching the gelcoat in the splash well of a basscat. Mine is scuffed up real bad from the current hosing. That's why basscat went to that different design on their newer boats.

Slice a shop vac hose, wrap around wires. Add zip ties on ends and a few in the middle to keep it secure. Get zip ties that can fit in between the corrugated design.

Installing some 3M Clear Bra in the splashwell prevents damage to the gel. I have done it in all of my previous boats.

On my kicker I used a black 1” rod sock. Slipped in on with black nylon cable ties at both ends, looks good.

This is what I use also. You can easily get it at the local hardware store if you find yourself in the mood for a quick project. Move the primer bulb to inside the rear compartment (No UV damage that way and it is still easily accessible) and it makes for a nice clean look. Fit my Mercury perfect.

First, do you need to replace cuzz your current Merc tube is ripped? I know many Phoenix/Merc setups have suffered due to that tube being too long. I've torn mine, from trimming up too high when installing the MotorMate. I took it apart and cut almost a foot off the tube now no problems. If the tube is too long it's easier to split. With it shortened it works perfect.
