Side image transducer location Eagle 175

I'm going to pull off the two old brackets, fill the holes, add a mounting board, and install a Helix Compact SI transducer. The boat came to me with a Helix 7 DI, transducer mounted on the bracket on the second step, furthest from the center but I see that at one time there was a transducer on the first step. Any experienced advice on where to locate the new side image transducer, 1st step or 2nd step? Thanks in advance! (BTW don't bust my balls, I know it's filthy! Just trailered it after being in the slip a week, it'll get a good wash job when it stops raining.)

I do the first step as long as you don't have any motor interference. I think most instructions on depth finders says as close to center line as possible.

On my 17, there is a plate right where the first one is located for a tranducer from the factory.

Thanks, that helps. My OCD took over and I got into the over-thinking mode!

I put on a new tranducer for my new cockpit unit (not SI) but GPS, etc. and used the same factory spot on the first step. Works great.
