    Vexus knockoff AVX series?????

I was surfing the web and came across the Avid boat company. Their bass series look just like the Vexus AVX line. They almost look identical.

Really? I am not positive but I think they are built by a former Vexus employee, hence the similarities.

Basically a Vexus with some nice improvements which you will need to see on future Vexus boats to keep up with the competition.

Gunnel is a nice touch, looks very fiberglass like. They enclosed the bottom of the console. Slide out drawer on the bow step. .125 on the hull instead of .100. Built in 4" setback on transom.

Price is much better than Vexus.

You are right, they are not even close.

Everything about this boat spells Vexus knockoff. I kept waiting for the 5 knee braces, then , there it is, 5 knee braces on the transom. Seats look very cheap though.

The censorship originates from an opposite source.

The young (28) owner of Avid built a boat company NauticStar which he sold to MasterCraft ($80m), and now is starting Avid Boats. My YouTube feed popped this video up this past weekend. I agree the top deck is arranged just like the Vexus, they used the curved gunnels, 5 knee braces, but the hull is much different from Vexus from what I can see. For one they have the straight sides like Triton’s new attempt to copy Vexus, which get you wet in choppy water. The genius of the Vexus design along the side of the boat is that seam (indention) that shoots choppy water straight sideways when it comes down on the wave. There are probably many more ways they are built differently. One is they hired and trained all new employees that MS helped pay to train on how to build an aluminum boat. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If you remember early Ranger innovations were copied by competing boat companies.

This is all part of the "REVOLUTION". It is not a revolution if nobody follows. Avid just joined. Personally, I am glad to see another company build something other than a john boat with a pad. We may see that type of hull go extinct in tournament bass boats some day. I won't miss it myself. No disrespect.

You are correct - it is a much better boat, for less money. Seems like a good business plan to me. And faster to boot.

Did they ever mention price? I watched it but I may have skipped over that part.

This would be a good test. Call Avid direct and ask them the questions you’re asking here in this forum, and see what answers you get. See if their owner Phillip Faulkner returns your call and can answer how they are built and when you can visit the plant to see for yourself.

Excel Boats make great Mud Buddy boats...kinda invented the step deck transom for running in shallow water.

There is a conversation on this new brand in the Tin boat forum. I believe the dealer stated the boat was 47999 with the 200 SHO.
I do like the gunnels. One of the most important details of this boat (Vexus may be the same way on the 20 footer) is that all the lockers have a raised ledge and seal. It looks to be a water proof design, which has always been a downfall in the tin boat industry.
