    300r 160 sportmaster case

    Don,
Any way I can visually tell that the engine is at full throttle? Serial number is 1E081216

Not that I know of. The handful that I have seen and mine all needed a computer. The foot throttle is very touchy and on mine I needed to modify to get full throttle. It is a super quick test at a dealer. The timely part is if it needs adjustment and modification of the foot throttle.

Nope. MUST use G3-2019 Computer Diagnostic System to verify throttle demand (and/or position).

The 29 Max 5 with 1.60 gears is way to much prop for that big boat. JMHO!

That was the pitch Mercury Racing Prop man recommended. So far at 5200 rpm 80mph is top speed 250 it replaced has ran 86.4

My vesselview link shows throttle percentage. Don't know if that would be accurate or not.

I have a 300R on a little bit heavier hull and can turn a 30 to the limiter with 1.75 gears. I would think that a 27 or 28 would be more fitting with the 1.60 gears, even with the lighter hull. I am positive Mercury Marine knows more about this than I. You are barking up the right tree by having the throttle adjustment checked first. Good luck and keep us posted.

With the larger sport master lower you should be running about 1” higher on the jp then the 3 liter sport master according to mercury anyway.

I have a hydraulic jackplate and tried 1 1/4 above pad and ran a dismal 78 mph again at 5200 rpm...Seems their is no power added when I push the hot foot beyond halfway

Hopefully it’s just a quick adjustment on the computer and will get you rolling

Has to be something wrong in the throttle adjustment...I have power all the way to the limiter. If I could just get past this prop slippage I might a boat that will run. i would love to run a Max 5 ST on mine just to see if it was worth the money.

You most likely have more pedal to go when you get a computer on it, but in the end I agree the prop is probably going to be too big.

I tested a 1.6 vs 1.75 on my 300R back to back and even a 28 didn't hit the limiter. You want to aim for 6200 or more. In the end the 28 I tested didn't do that hot vs what the 1.75 could do with a 32 (same prop different pitch). The 28 was just a little too big.

All testing was on an Allison XB21. We had over 20 props on hand for testing and in the end, everything was too big for the 1.6 case. We needed another 20 or so props in the 26-28 range to play with.

Sounds like your at about 90%.. exactly where mine was before computer and removing the stop screw on hotfoot.
I've got a 28 if your interested in a trade. With my 1.75s and lower rev limit its not enough.

Throttle needs to be verified by G3 software.

the 29, like stated above, will be too stiff for the 1.60s

+5 or 6 on this. Will need to address BOTH problems.
