    Bullet 21xd setup question

I have a 21xd with 250xs 1.62 and I needs some help setting up. I can only get about 78mph out of this rig, one person half tank fuel. Motor height is 3/4” below pad and my water psi is 25. Seems like everybody said Says I should be 1/2 to 1” below pad. So I lowered motor to 1” below pad and I dropped 1 mph. Should I raise motor higher
    thanks

Do you have a sport master? If you do you need to bring it up maybe start at 1” above pad that’s if you do have a sport master. The sporty was designed to run of the surface.

What prop? I have a 21xdc with 250xs TM-1.75 (5/8" below). I have a ran a dozen props the last 12+ months and there has been a few that 79-80 was all they had. That being said, I bought those props used so who knows if it was the prop or THE prop if you know what I mean. My best 2 have been Bravo 1XS (84). I did run a friends Promax that struggled a bit out of the hole and hit a wall at 80, but at 50-70mph it ran better than anything. It lifted the boat really well and my mph were better than anything I have tried. I have been tempted to try another promax. Just so your expectations are realistic, there are a small handful getting that 21/250 to push or even exceed 85, but 95% are getting 80-83

I have a little back ground and a little knowledge I can maybe help. I too have a 21Xd with a 250XS and 1:62 gears and a torque master gear case. When I picked my boat up it had been set up by someone at Bullet so I have no idea if the prop had been worked or not. It had a 26 Trophy and motor was sitting 3/4 below the pad. Solo I could gps 86 on cooler temps and 83 with 2 people tourney loaded with live wells full. This was my numbers for 13 years until I got a little disoriented in a fog bank and banged that prop up on a hump. I then purchased after a good bit of research a 26 Pro Max. The Pro Max is over all a outstanding prop. It comes out of the hole pretty dad burn good. The mid range is outstanding. The handling is wonderful! It is easy to drive and it carries a load well without loosing to much top end. The down side is exactly what Barbarian stated earlier. It hits a wall at 80. I have not had a chance to do a bunch of test runs but from what I have done so far is 82-83 solo and 79-80 loaded 2 people. I am now trying to figure out if I can find someone who might have a 27 pitch I could try to see if I could gain a little more top end back. I have also thought I may send it to Mark Croxton to see if he could get a little more out of it. It does everything so good especially handling and mid range I could settle for a little less top end maybe. Do I run wide open all the time? heavens no but it is very nice to know its there when you do want to let her eat.

Hydromotive 26-27 X-O/B at 1/2” below, Promax likes 1/2” below as well, Bravo XS likes 3/4” below

My last 21xrd with 250 Pro XS w/ 1.75 would turn a custom 29 X-O/B to 87.0 solo and carry 2 people on tournament day at 84. Heat of the summer it would drop to 85-86 solo and 82-83 on tournament day. Same boat with a 28 Promax would run 86 solo and 82 on tournament day.

The one I ran for the first year I had the boat was a stock 28.5. I had it blueprinted but did not notice a single change in anything. I bought a 30 off facebook and wanted to try it in the winter just to see. I put it on in January and was shocked that I could turn it just about the same RPM as my 28.5. It ran better than my 28.5 and hit 83.5 solo going fishing with 30+ gallons of gas, ultrex on the front, 12" graph sticking out the side of console and a talon on the back and it did that on back to back runs that were less than 3 miles long from hole shot. I have no doubt I could've crossed the 84 mark with a little more time. I still don't like the mid range though. ***But after that initial day with the 30, I was adjusting my PVS plugs and thought the prop looked shorter than my 28.5 and sure enough the 30 at some point in its life has had about 3/8-1/2" of the flare cut off. That also means that it has been worked too most likely, but I have no idea what has been done to it. I have since sold that 28.5. But I would love to try a 27/28 Promax. I am to the point being in Texas that I would sacrifice some hole shot and 1-3 off top end to get better mid range. I don't technically need a great hole shot around here and rarely does the weather allow any WOT runs of any distance.

I’d like to try a trophy prop but Do you have to get a flo torque hub if you put a trophy prop on mercury motor
