Have a new L boat wanna secure older push pole on rear deck. measures 1 5/8 OD what brackets or straps have you used?
I used rivets and Velcro straps about 7 years ago on my boat and never had a problem. I mounted my push pole directly behind the seats.

Actually mine snaps in very tight and takes a pretty good pull to get it out, but there is no doubt with your velcro straps.
