    Prop/setup Question - 03 TR21 // 2020 Merc 250 Pro XS 4S

I'm upgrading from a 2003 225 Optimax (non-pro xs) to a 2020 Merc 250 4S Pro XS on my Triton TR-21. The optimax had a 25p Tempest plus that seemed to be pretty good with the 225, it pushed the boat to 69.5mph (gps) and ~5800 - 5900 RPM, now im putting on a new 250 Pro XS and am intending on using the same prop... does anybody have experience with this prop and boat combo? Also, what motor height should i start at with the new motor, i heard the motor likes to run a little lower in the water than the old 225?

    Thanks for any help,

No help from me, but I'm interested in how your numbers turn out. Please keep us updated. I have the same boat. Just wondering what to expect if I end up having to repower.

Here i what i saw today...remember, still in the break in period (5 hours): Setup : Prop 2 3/4" below the pad (water press 23-25 psi at top speed), 25 Tempest plus with med plugs in all holes, 1/2 to 3/4 fuel, moderate load (60-70 pounds maybe), single person 230 lbs. Hole shot is awesome until the boat gets up on plane then it breaks free... have to work the PVS and maybe a bigger prop (26 or 27p). Mid range punch is pretty health, light trim (learning the hull) had me at 70 before i could blink... minimal, if any chine walk up to 72, after 72 it had a little walk... left pressure on the wheel resolved it and got up to 76 before i ran out of room (debris in water). Overall, top speed was 77.1 (ran out of room again) with some pedal remaining (little bit, 1/2" or so) at 5800-5900 rpm, trim was light and it rode awesome, higher trim cut speed somewhat and made the walk worse.

I would say that is probably the best all around set up. You could get more speed with a 26 or27th p but you're going to sacrifice hotshot most likely.

I am running that motor on a 98 TR21 with 26 Tempest and can tell you holeshot will not be a problem. Between weather and corona though, I cannot tell you what you will need on top end. I've got a few hours on it so far and seen 75+, but do not know what it is capable of yet.
