I have 2 of them and honestly wouldn’t take much to copy and have made wood or aluminum. It crossed my mind to have a copy made with enough changes to avoid patent issues but never persued it. The weak link appears to be the 3 fingers that hold the collar.
You are correct it is not rocket science and not that complicated to reproduce. You have a PM from me.

    Some do lock... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078R4DYWM..._t3_B081ZLTC56

Seems like it would be easy to make any of them lock with a ring on one side of the handle...

I have a couple pairs of this exact brand. They work pretty good. I modified the tongs that hold the skirt band.

Why and how did you modify the prongs?

The edges were to sharp and would cut the band if you applied pressure in the wrong direction I replaced the supplied tongs with 316 stainless steel tig wire. It looks similar to the Naked Baits Skirt Expander.

OK... Did you try and round off the sharp edges first? Seems like an easier option.

Yes, it would have been easier option. I always got to do things the hard way and always feel that I can build a better mouse trap. Stay safe and healthy Michael.

I have switched o ring types from 70 durometer to 50 and has made all of the difference in the world... I'm still looking for a softer rubber, But the 50 durometer is way softer and elastic than 70...

I hate collars... I have tied miles and miles worth of wire on old school square rubber, round rubber etc... I like using o rings on the silicone. I use 2 o-rings per skirt. Make a skirt with 1 o-ring, Slide skirt on, Then put another one on after on the lead collar or barbed collar. Make the bait flare more and keeps the skirt pushed forward.

I've been doing the same thing. Great minds think alike.

I have... I tie my own dressed trebles etc... When you have been making your own everything for near 40 years, You probably have tried most everything.

    And you are only 33
