50 gallon tank and when the fuel gauge is reading 1/4 you have about 20 gallons in the tank. Its just the way the tank was designed.

ok thanks! The boat is new to me. Only had it out about 5 times. It has a 2018 merc 250 on it. I filled it all the way up and it went to 1/2 pretty fast this past weekend. I had a feeling the gauge was off. I sometimes make long runs in tourneys, and wasnt sure how far i can get on a tank. Thanks

I had same issue with carrying around too much gas. The float was not reading correctly in the tank. I replaced mine and got a float longer than the original length. It reads better now.

Get a Mercury smart craft gauge. It tells you your fuel consumption and other important data.

This is how my 2004 201proxl tank reads. I ran it empty and checked guage as I filled it. It’s an L shaped tank and never reads correct. If you have a Merc smartcraft guage, that is your best bet.

    20 gal-1/8 tank
    30 gal- just over 1/4
    40 gal- just under 3/4
    50 gal- full

So what about the 1992 201 pro xl? i was told 2 @24 gal tanks. can anyone confirm this? I've been out but scared to run out so always putting 10-15 gal in at a time. Gages move, but not sure accurate. Assuming all insides are stock.

When looking up information to websites that are no longer in service use a site called "the way back machine"...I looked in the year 2005 but for some reason at the top of the page in the link I am going to post is says the year is 2005-2007...https://web.archive.org/web/20060207...s.com/?id=1143

Sorry just realized were talking about a different year than what the OP has. I don't think Stratos had a website in 92 so no help from me.
