A plate under the jack plate will help but not solve it. I just hit the gas when starting to set down, that helps a lot for me.

I know that some have tried putting some kind of air bladder in the setback plate. I used a couple of fenders for a while and I know others that tried a basketball. It helps float the back higher which will reduce the backwash.

I love mine, solves all my shallow water fishing issues, plus I can run a big wheel and get on the pad a lot faster.
