    Football jig

Can anyone tell me what this football jig head without a weed guard would be used for?

Speed Craw, can also be rigged like a shakey head, I use them some off shore around hard bottom points with structure.

Put a magnum trick worm, brush hog or a lizard on it and work it around gravel or rocky points or shell beds.

I've seen folks put them in tubes, especially for fishing around gobies, but the main thing that comes to mind when I see those is grub fishing, specifically a hula grub.

Past that, you can really fish it anywhere where you've got "well behaved" rocks and no wood. It'll come through really well, and the hookup percentage is insanely high compared to something with a weedguard. As bwhit mentioned, you can also use the bait keeper to make something similar to a shakey head.

I use them all the time on flats with lots of gravel, small rock and sand. Usually tip them with a UV Speed Craw and grind them across the bottom.

I'll cast another vote for the grub application. Though I personally find myself wanting a light wire guard on most of my jigs when the hook is exposed like that. You might have to spend a little more money for them, but it's worth it in the long run because you're not loosing as many jigs.
