    171 engine shaft length

I can't seem to get a fix on what the ideal outboard shaft length is for a 171. Is it 20 or 25?

ALL Champion bass boats use a 20" shaft.

I have a 171SC and it takes a 20in shaft as stated above.

Thanks guys. I'm a bit confused I guess (nothing new there). My engine, which I intend to replace, us a Merc 125 ELPTO. My understanding is that it is a 20" shaft length. Is that correct? When I measure it I get something nearer to 25" but certainly more than 20". Also, if I were to change to a 115 Opti or a 115 four stroke what sort of hole shot sacrifice should I expect over the terribly idling 125 HP I have.

The “L” is shaft length. 20”
    XL is 25”
    XXL is 30”
    So reading merc model code
    E: Electric start
    L: shaft length
    P: power trim
    T: two stroke
    O: oil injected.
