I read in another forum that a motor with a lot of idle hours is more of a concern than a motor that’s been run hard for most of its life?

neither is a correct answer. Each motor is different and so many other variables in play

I would say true if it's a 2 stroke. Carbon build up is the enemy here but depends on which motor, maintenance procedures and fuel preparation. 4 strokes...not so much
Thanks for the replies

In a "perfect" scenario we would like to see the majority of an engine's runtime in the midrange, with a reasonably proportional runtime at low and high RPM's.
Some of the runtime reports we see look like someone has been using the V6 as a trolling motor.

Friction creates heat. Heat equals wear. Lower rpm's create less heat. Oil quality is everything here. I'd be more concerned with what oil has been used thru the life of the motor. IMO, open up the motor to full throttle for a short period before loading out. Especially with older 2 strokes that build up carbon. IMO
