Is the Z118 and 188vx hull the same?

Is the Z118 hull the same as the older 188vx? I had a 2010 188vx that I sold when I upgraded to a larger boat and have regretted it ever since. I have now located a babied Z118 that I am considering purchasing and am trying to determine if the hulls are the same. If so, given the better layout it may be a perfect match for me. Thanks!

If I recall correctly, running surface is identical.

I have a 2012 Ranger Z118 and I believe its more along the lines of the 518 Hull. I could be wrong but my 2012 Z118 looks almost identical to a 2012 518, it fishes really good for an 18' boat very stable, lots of storage. The only thing i would change is more HP, I have a 150 Pro XS Ive seen 63 Almost Empty but loaded its a 57-58 mph boat.

Thanks for the information. I really liked my 188vx, which ran about 57-58 with a 150 ETEC HO and on most days I was fine with that. I am getting very close to pulling the trigger.

It is the same haul. They put more goodies on the Z518 and for some reason allow it to be rated for a 200 Hp. Im glad they kept the rating on the Z118 to an arbritary 150 hp. I think you would have very little room for a mistake running that haul at around 70 mph if there is anything but relatively smooth water conditions. But that is just my opinion.

The 188vx is rated for a 175hp and the z118 is only rated for a 150hp.

From what I have read, that is more a judgement/marketing initiative and not related to an actual difference in hull. But, that is what I am hoping to determine, if the 188 and 118 hulls are the same. Thanks.

And you would be correct in your assessment of a marketing-based decision.
