    Fuel filter installation ?

    Hey folks,
I have a 2010 Optimax 115 (1B750589) and stopped by a local parts shop to buy a fuel filter. I asked if the o-rings needed lube prior to installation and they said no because it could cause leaks down the road. I always understood the o-rings needed a small amount of lube to seat properly.
    Please set me straight.
    Thanks all.

I dip my finger in Premium Plus and lube the o ring. Never had a leak. I am looking forward to what our mechanics write.

Should not be using a filter from the auto parts stores for a marine application, and any and all 0-rings should always be lubed on installation, not lubing them can sure increase the risk of a leak, I get very deep discounts from Napa, but only genuine mercury parts go on my motors, No E bay or internet stuff
    Thank You Leon Pugh

Thanks Leon, I didn't mention it was a Mercury authorized repair shop.

For the red-cap IVST Filter, you should be lubricating the o-rings with 2-4-C Grease, or Vaseline (just the o-rings, not half of the filter).
