The Diablo is a nice all around rod. It does a lot of different techniques very well. I prefer a more moderate action rod for traps but that’s personal preference.

I use a 7’1 MH-F BPS Platinum rod and Platinum reel 8.3. It’s great for the larger traps with 12lb mono. If I’m throwing braid I’ll use my 7’ M-F Carbonlite 2.0 7.5:1. I don’t want to use braid with treble hook baits but when I’m a co-angler and can’t have my whole arsenal sometimes I have to compromise.

IMO the Carbonlite 2.0 rods are the best $99 rods you can buy! I do love my Daiwa reels and both the Tatula Type Rs and the SV fit on the Carbonlite Rods really well.

Take a look at the Phenix glass cranking rod, very nice rods and you can cast a 1/2 oz trap a country mile.

Many rods work well imo. I've used these rods with success:

    Dobyns 705CB Glass Fast
    Destroyer Javelin
    MBR843 GLX
    Custom Point Blank PB701MHF

My main reel is a 8.1:1 T3 Ballistic Limited, all modded out of course. But I've used everything from 5:1 to 8:1.
