Tharp never ran a Mercury. He was running a Yamaha when he went with Evinrude and then switched back to Yamaha.

Well, I got excoriated for saying Evinrude would go 4 stroke or go away. They are no longer an FLW sponsor, and I saw no booth for them at the Classic next week, so I guess they went with option 2.
