Moisture issue/ Mold issue

A good freind purchased a new ZX250 and has been having mold issues, rod handles (cork) get mold, so does tackle bags etc. He keeps the boat under a carport type structure, and covers the boat each time .

Any ideas as to why this is happening? We are not getting rain here and so he is not fishing in the rain either

Possibly condensation building up from keeping it both covered and underneath the boat port. With the compartments closed, I know some build up moisture when the temperature and/or humidity fluctuates. If he wants to keep it covered, perhaps he could prop open the compartments to facilitate some air flow. Many other things he could do, but I would at least start with that.
