    Re-rating a USCG plate?

My dad has owned a H56 since new in 2007. We Lost my dad to cancer and for sentimental reasons, I plan to hang on to the boat for a while. The question I have is if anyone on here’re has worked with Xpress on getting the boat re-rated. It came from the factory rated for a 140. I would think that how the hulk compares to the X18, it could hold a 150, if a jack plate and hydraulic steering was added.

A jack plate makes it worse. The reason for the 140 was that was the biggest 4cyl- after that it was a v6. Hull ratings are a calculation off the hull dimensions. The uscg has these calculations figured out and havent changed them in many years. Xpress would never re-rate your boat but there are a lake full of boats that are overrated. Check out the latest evinrude g2 motors. They have a 140 and a 115ho that will really wake your rig up. You will forget about a 150 after running one of those and you can get 7-10yrs of warranty according to when you get it.

I’ve always been a fan of them since they introduced the G2, but our area is lacking in support, plus the added cost of controls might eliminate that as an option. This boat will most likely be a dedicated crappie boat, as that’s all dad fished for the past few years and it’s well rigged for that. I’m curious as to what Xpress has changed on the transom, etc. on the X18. I’m pretty sure the H56 has a .125 skin.

My old 18ft H56 with 150 ProXs. Boat was rated for a 140 also. Ran like a scalded dawg with that 150. I also added hyd steering.

Bobby, I only watched your Big Black and Big Red videos about 50 times. You really had them aired out. If I remember Big Black was about 3 mph faster.

    T Bob:
What kind of numbers did you see with the 150 and what prop ran the best?

1Holeshot thanks buddy. You are correct. The black one was a few mph faster.
JSU, that boat would run 67-68 loaded to fish with 2 people, 69-71 light load.
My fastest prop was a 3 blade TXP 25p. I also had a 25p trophy plus that would run 1-2 mph slower than the TXP. Both props were worked by Brian at Holeshot Propeller.
Only mod I had done was I plugged the top 4 holes in the lower unit which allowed me to run the engine higher to spin a bigger prop for better top end. It was set up with a 6" manual plate and a 5" hyd jack plate bolted to the manual one for 11" set back.

My old specs on a H60 had higher sides than X18 and the H60 was rated for a 135 but I was able to get a plate for the X18 and it was rated for a 150. I think the H56 has a thinner hull, you might want to check that out.
