Keelguard Length

2017 Sabre FTD so an 18’ 1” boat. Keelguard lists the 6 footer for up to 18’ boats and the 7 footer for up to 20’ boats. I was thinking of getting the 7 footer but looked on the BCB store and only 6 footers are listed. I am doing the install myself so Hamby’s is out.

Is the 6 foot Keelguard the best size for the Sabre?

I know this is from last year but have wondered the same thing myself, based on length. I called BCB and they said all they use is the 6 foot Keelguard or Hamby's. I went to Keelguards site and noticed it said 7 foot for up to 20ft as of today as still. I also watched the Tactical Bassin video (he puts a 8 foot KeelGuard on his wifes' ChampioN 198) and he said he always goes with an 8 foot one (his personal boat is a ChampioN 210) so that it covers the front and more of the keel for beaching in the southern lakes or any lakes that have shallower shoreline angles.

BCB (Alan) did tell me not further from the bow eye than 3-4 inches max when installing one.

I wonder if it would be better to just get a fabric/sewing tape measure and tape it and run it down the keep to see where the 6 foot one would stop. This might help us determine if we want to run longer ones than 6 foot or if 6 foot would be perfect. Note: I haven't done this but may now that I wrote this.

The 6' was perfect for my Sabre but I did what you are thinking about and measured it. I would measure yours boat to be sure.
