    Troll Tamer on Ghost?

Anyone put a troll tamer on their ghost? Pics?

If not what are you using to keep it from flopping around when running rough water?

Not a Lowrance product. My guess is he screwed it in to the bounce post(which is hollow)the ghost already come with.

Why? Does it just keep from having to use the strap? (Serious question, I have never seen one before.)

On Lake Mead you need more then a strap.

Yep, the bounce post is gonna beat a whole in my deck if I don't do something. With the strap locked down tight, it bounces an easy 3 inches. Besides that, can't be good for the motor to flop around like that.

I sent the video to TH Marine. They confirmed it is not their standard. Suggested I ask Lowrance what they did. LOL

It’s interesting that you say that, my buddy sent me a video of his ghost and it has about 1.5 inches of travel while stowed. Mine has next to zero travel. I thought 1.5” was insane, I can’t image 3”.

Mine has zero travel also; I made sure I measured closely to remove all bounce as I run the Columbia River. And you should be able to adjust some of it out with the threaded end and lock nut. If you cut it too short you could always order a new rod.

Not sure I could push it high enough and still be able to release the pin to deploy. Would have to push it up until there was a lot of tension on the pin

The Troll Tamer bolt is a 3/8-16. I'm gonna get a tap and tap the bounce post and screw the Troll Tamer Bolt into the bounce post. Pretty sure that's what was done to the one on the video.

I have a Troll Tamer on the way - I installed my Ghost and in the driveway locked it down with the provided Factory Bounce Buster - cutting it to length with threads to spare on the top (sticking out of the lug on the mount). I tested several times before I cut and I had maybe .75"-1" of travel without the Bounce Buster (stowed/locked) - it actually barely moved when locked. However after one trip - granted with pretty rough conditions on Lake Michigan - the travel on the mount gradually increased throughout the day to 3-3.5" at least. I was worried I had broken the mount - but everything seems fine - it just now moves way more than it did in the locked/stowed position.

I am hoping that based on what I saw I can tap the factory Bounce Buster rod - using only the bottom of the Troll Tamer (threaded/bolt with locking tip) and the Lock-cup (on deck portion). Troll Tamer needs to make a Tamer-rod that would thread into the Ghost lug on the mount, it could be a 2 minute install. A machinist or anyone with a mill/CNC would laugh at how easy this would be - but since I don't have any CNC Mill or Lathe we'll see if I can tap the factory Bounce Buster rod. If this doesn't work - I am going to just order another one of factory parts and re-cut much longer.

Again - don't have at Troll Tamer yet - but when I do I will post results.

    Good luck.

Just watched the Facebook video above and I am hoping to reproduce what Lowrance did on the Ghost in the Facebook video. It appears to be just a tapped factory support with the Troll Tamer threaded in.

    Good luck.

Originally mine had a lot of travel and somewhere I read that the rod should be cut with only one half inch of free play (up and down travel).
This now brings the head of the motor very high off the deck which now my travel cover strap is too short. My Motorguide sat very low to the deck.
Doing that and the strap is fine for me in any rough water.

I have something similar and mine will not move at all even running in white caps at 45..I just had back surgery yesterday, so may be a day before I can get outside and take a pic.

Retired G - Looks very nice - that is exactly what I was planning to do.

James_AZ - thanks for the Tap Size - pretty sure I have one in my box.

    Thanks.
