    Pro xs vs opti

Beside lower unit, what is the difference between a 250 pro xs vs a
    240 optimax?

was told pro xs puts out more horse power and has more low end torque

Wendylou- the 250 ProXS is a 3L engine model. Lots of info on the 3L forum for that engine series (two more down the list).

Be sure to clarify what you're wanting to compare (as there is no "240 Optimax").

Differences between XS and Opti- besides the Torque Master/Fleet Master gearcase on the Pro XS- Carbon fiber reed valves, Lightweight Cowling, Solid motor mounts etc. All mostly for durability and reliability tho I'm prone to think that there's been a bump or two in the ECM programming re; injector pulse width and W.O.T. timing to further enhance performance. So, Opti is the standard in DFI. Pro XS is a step above. At least since the late 90's, Mercury Marine has been at least 90% of the world market in marine propulsion and for good reason- Materials and advanced engineering have always allowed them to push the envelope in performance. This is especially evident in the new line-up of V8 4 strokes/ IMO.

Fleetmaster gearcases are not used on the ProXS engine lineup. Differences depend on what two engines are being compared- if the engine is 225hp or above, the differences start at the Block and Pistons, Cylinder Heads, Fuel Rails, Direct Injectors, Air Compressor, Flywheel cover, PCM, Reeds, Reed Plate, Attenuator, Mounts, and Decals (just to name a few).
