    Engine choice Evinrude/Mercury

I really need some advice I`m getting ready to by a new 20ft aluminium bass boat. It`s listed weight empty is 1175, fully loaded 2100lbs.
The dealer normally installs the new gen 2 Evinrude 150 H.O. two stroke. I have always been a Mercury guy but lately All I`m hearing about is these Evinrudes.
They claim to be quieter, faster, better fuel economy and a full 7 year warranty. The dealer will install a Mercury motor also. Speed is not important to me, hole shot and mid range is my thing.

    Any advise based on experiences?

Mercury 150 ProXS four stroke - 5 years warranty - more dealers

    Evinrude 150 gen two H.O. - 7 yr warranty - less dealers

Well the Evinrude is definitely louder, and it has more warranty for a reason- lack of consumer confidence/demand.

Based on that criteria the G2...reason being it is a torque monster.

On a side note most people do not know this but the G2 motor is the cleanest burning outboard motor out of all the major brands. People think of two strokes as being a dirty burning motor but the technology they have in the G2 actually has lower emission rates than the other major manufacturers.

I would switch to an OMC tomorrow if I had the chance. The 7yr may have something to do with the Fucht aftermath, maybe. But everything I hear is that those motors are a beast. I really don't think it's got to do with reliability.

I have a 150 merc 4 stroke on a 22’ bayboat it is a BEAST. They are very proven engines. The low end power is unbelievable I plane easily with 6 adults and still tops out in the mid 40s.

Thanks for all the input from so many, I`m to the point where I believe either is a good choice I guess I`ll just go with best priced unit. The evinrude is higher than the merc but they are now offering a 2000 rebate which makes them almost the exact same price?

Thanks for the response, its kinda like the old Ford vs Chevy thing it seems. I did forget to mention one thing, I do a lot of very low speed operation reading my graph not sure if that comes into play with either motor? The other consideration is the merc is about 50lbs lighter.

Get the G2 if you don't mind buying 2 stroke oil. The added warranty is a huge plus that you'll pay a lot for on a Mercury.

The mercury warranty should be able to be extended up to a total of 8 years. Granted it will cost a bit more.

Merc. I’ve done the Rude road a couple times. I’ll stay with my Merc’s.

Will be a bit difficult since OMC has not existed in many years.

Bombardier is the largest engine builder on the planet. Those g2 motors are impressive the few I’ve talked to that run them rave about them. Got me thinking about trading the ranger with a merc 4stroke to ranger with evinrude.
