    What's your favorite pond bait?

Hey guys, just dropped a new video on pond bass fishing. Caught them on a Strike King Belly Blade/Rage Swimmer and a Swinging Swim Jig/Rage Swimmer. If you get a chance, take a look at my video and let me know what you think!

That leads me to this: What is your favorite pond fishing bait and why? Thanks guys!

I have a 1-acre pond with very little cover and highly educated bass. My favorite bait there is whatever they are biting, but seriously, anything they have never seen before will work for a while. After that, to get a bite when nothing else works, throw some kind of extreme finesse bait. A small drop shot or even a weightless tube works well. Or a floating craw on a tiny jig head like 1/6 ounce. Early in the day, I can usually fool a few with a weightless fluke, too, but nothing lasts more than 2 or 3 fish. They educate quickly, at least in a clear-water pond that size.

A Rapala Brat that runs 3' deep. I learned about it the hard way when a buddy of mine flat wore me out with one.

I started throwing a Berkley Wakebull, 60mm in MF Bluegill last April. I would reel it in quickly, just below the surface. It was my number one pond producer all of last year. I was even catching fish on New Years Eve with that thing, right before the ponds eventually froze over.

Most hard core bass guys dismiss ultralight gear, but aggressive panfish and pond bass are an absolute blast on UL gear, tiny baits and light line.

Thing about this is that you don't fish it on the bottom like a worm, well I don't. You reel it very slowly hopping it every once in a while. Almost like fishing a grub.

When I was in Jr. and high school in the 70s I had several ponds I fished, I basically used three baits; 1/4 rooster tail (Gray shad with whit tail silver blade and green with green tail gold blade), original floating Rapala ( one gold one silver), and a purple and a black Creme worm rigged on a simple ball head jig with the hook exposed( we just called it worm fishing back then, Known as shaky head now). Bass used to love those baits.
