The more efficient hulls don't have the wide decks that Mr. Jackson was referring to.... John....the G2 Evinrude is worth a consideration...IMHO..

If you are worried about money, you really need to find another hobby.

Say you go out with your new fuel efficient engine, no matter what brand, and you save 5 gallons of gas in a day's fishing. You just saved $15.00. So instead of burning $100 worth of gas, you burned $85.

You lost 2 - umbrella rigs and 1 Megabass Vision 110. You lost $60.00 or so in lures.

That don't include a $30 - 80K boat, $50K truck and $15,000 worth of rods, reels and lures.

Come on people. Bass fishing is a money pit. You ain't got enough to fill it up.

My engine computer on my 250 SHO shows 4.1 mile per gallon when I cruise at 38 mph at 3800 rpm and I believe its close to that , yes I don't run fast very often , no hurry .

Some of us are to old to throw an A rig !! and on a fixed income. With your math $85.00 vs $100.00 per trip = $15.00 a day savings which makes one free trip for every 6 made with 5 dollars left over for peanuts and beer.

Also, it's not a money thing, it's a running out of gas thing. I currently run a Stroker which is a very efficient hull.

The Mercury level 1 monitor provides all the performance data on the engine including best fuel economy and it can be displayed on the Lowrance MFD but there is no reason to do that. It's all on the monitor.
    How do I find that?

I have run DFIs since the early 2000s. They are very fuel efficient compared to there carb’d predecessors. The new 4s are by no means gas hogs or even close to it. They are similar in fuel burn in my experience. Both will burn about the same amount of fuel driven the same way.

4 vs 4.2 is a wash in the long run.

At 6ks RPMS would a V6 3.1 liter or a V8 4.6l use more gas? At WOT the 2 stroke was better. But not much diff at lower rpms IMO.

    Got to love her.

I have found that the fuel burn almost doubles when going from 4000 RPM to 5800 RPM. Running at 40 is relaxing and gives one time to dodge the just below the surface logs found on Lake Shasta in the spring.
