    No boat does 60 mpg.......

Asked me the same question, I told them yes......they still insure it, and they also have the boat & engine info too.

Is it always about speed? What about the added weight and added toque? I have a Ranger 620vs fisherman series, it is a 2003 and rated at 225hp max. Same boat today would be, what 350hp? I have a 8hp kicker does that add into the "max" hp rating? If I needed to replace the motor I would like a 250 or more but will stick with the max listed on the boat.

Well, I know a guy who had an overpowered rig, and he hit someone at night on a lake back home...not even power related......he lived across the street from my uncle.

4 of the 6 people involved were killed/died from it.

I don't know how it all played out, but I do know it almost destroyed his family financially (and he was insured), and from that day on, it took almost a year before he would go fishing again, and if he was on the water at dusk, you put him ashore before dark.

There is a better way to go about it. Just change the stickers. No, not like that. Put on the correct motor without going over the rated capacity. Then upgrade the stickers by 25 hp. You sleep better and those you are working to impress will be..............easy peazy

My brother worked with a guy who tried that. Don't recall the exact circumstances but for sake of discussion I will say he put a 115 on a 50 hp rated runabout. He launched the boat to go fish a saltwater bay. While idling the channel leading to the Bay he throttled up and drove the rig under water. Literally torqued the ass end under the surface.

I think it depends on the boat and motor. I have a 520 vx w/225 Yamaha. I love the boat and when my motor goes Iíll be putting a 250 Hp on it.

My Hydrasport is rated for 245 or 247 hp something like that.
only because the 1998 Johnson 225 HO puts out like 245 or 247 hp
if I ever put a 250 repower G2 on it , Iíll have a new place card made.

The placard doesn't go by what the outboard actually makes...it goes by what it is rated for.

My Mercury is rated 200 hp, but in all likelihood puts out 220-230, but is still 100% legal on any hull rated for a 200 hp outboard.

Otherwise, you'd have to dyno every outboard to make sure it doesn't exceed the placard rating.

A first year law student would win a slam dunk law suit against you, even if the accident wasn’t your fault. They could easily convince a jury of average folks, who know nothing about boats, that you were knowingly reckless when you over powered your boat, substituting your poor judgement for the clear, expert judgement of the boats manufacturer regarding the max horsepower for that boat as stated on the manufactures plate.

That's for sure and the judge would declare the BBC Vehicle Modification Comparison Defense as totally irrelevant to a case that involves watercraft.

Doubt the "Need for More Speed" to beat your competition to the good spots so you can "Live the Dream, Grow the Sport and Feed Your Family would have any positive influence on the jury.
