Any particular type rope need to be used or can I get some black nylon rope and be done with it?

Rubber insert or nylon rope would be my choice. Poly rope becomes brittle out in the weather after time. If you go with nylon, leave a little extra at the ends when done, wet and let dry, it’ll shrink up a bit and then trim the rope and install trim pieces.

I bought 7/32 black tubing from an auto parts store. Once you get it started you can stretch it and tap it in with a rubber mallet. Turned out great and no more frayed rope sticking out.

On a previous Triton, I used rubber fuel hose. Current owner still has it in there 10 years later.
Just install it with any lettering inside and you'll be good to go. Although OD is your main concern, I believe the hose that fit that rail was 5/16 ID.

The trouble with rope is getting against a muddy dock or branch and it gets in the rope and looks like crap; plus the rope frays and doesn't look good. Google Rub rails, there is a company in Fla, if I recall, that has a good web site for that stuff.

I replaced mine with blue pvc opaque tubing. Matches my trim and
is cool looking. I think 100 ft was about $40.http://usplastics.com
