REPLACING IGNITION SWITCH 2000 OPTIMAX 200 HP

Purchased the new OEM ignition switch #8-88107A5 with 6 lead wires and instructions call for splicing existing wires however there is an extra existing red/purple strip wire left over.
Wondering if it needs to be attached to the red wire or left unused?

    Thanks in advance

Red w/purple stripe, and RED wires will connect together with the RED wire coming out of the new switch.
