Don't know about in a Yamaha but I use it in Johnson 90 on our pontoon . Doesn't seem to be smokey at all .
I ran it in my 200 HPDI for 18 years. Still running strong when I wrecked the boat.
Yamalube has a higher amount of moly, which has been suggested to run sooty, but if you run Ring Free the carbon should be under control. I had a same 2000 ox66 on my Skeeter.
Pennzoil XLF supposed to be for higher hours engines, according to their rep, and they say it runs cleaner, which could be for the lack of moly. Though, Moly supposed to help with wear and corrosion, so the choice is still your.
Run the cabelas semi synthetic. It seems to be working great. And is feasible. On sale right now for $15/gallon. I run it in my hpdi.
I've used it for years, no problems.

I used it for years as well. Way cheaper up here and ran with a lot less smoke. I had a 225 O66 which as you prolly know burned a lot of oil!
Running pennzoil for two years. So far no troubles, prop is clean also
2007 Z21 / 250 VMAX HPDI
Have run pennzoil in my 250 OX66 for last 14 years with no issues. Piston tops and inside of prop are always clean.
Guys at Hydrotech marine say nothing but yamalube and ringfree. That’s what I’ve been putting in mine, however, I’ve heard guys have real good luck with amsoil.
I am following this.. My 2000 ox66 225 has always ran yamalube and ring free.
She is a smokey, carboned up old stinker and I'd love to find an oil that doesn't make the whole prop black from a trip out
I use it in a 1998 Johnson 225 HO. , carbed motor ,but I use one ounce sea foam per gallon 90 octane real gas in it also.
