Va state record spot of 4lb 8 oz that was recently set has been broken last week at Gaston using a crank bait. So as of now looking like new va record spot will be 5 lb 7 oz
Those spots are growing fast .

Have noticed the growth the past couple years. Congratulations
I thought the spotted Bass was bad for Gaston?
They fight way better than a largemouth and I have noticed they are getting bigger. My last fall trip was mostly SB with a few LM's mixed in.
I love catching them myself.
Alabama spotted bass are a bad thing for our bass fisheries. Look what happened in Lake Norman, North Carolina.

Or smallmouth in Georgia.

Wishing I was Fishing
Help control the population by eating them. They are very tasty, none of that grassy bass taste.
I would agree that the spots aren't great for the largemouth and smallmouth fisheries, however the study from Norman showed that in the creeks and coves of the lake, the largemouth showed no noticeable population differences from before introduction, as this is their preferred habitat. I would completely agree about smallmouth as they inhabit nearly identical habitat and are thus out-competed by the Spots for spawning habitat.

If you talk to anybody that fished Norman before the spots came along they would all disagree that the spots are bad. Anybody remember the old nick name DEAD SEA. Now Norman is one of the best fisheries in the Carolina's.
I remember the dead sea and if you weighed a keeper in Redman you cashed a check.
