Thumbs Up I need a Ranger Z520C guru

Father in law just picked up a slightly used 2017 Ranger Z520C with a 250 Pro XS 2 stroke. It has a manual jack plate and it came with a tempest 25p prop. Being that we have a couple months till open water is there a certain prop that is used most that he could get just to try out when ice is out?

    Thanks in advance!

Try a Fury 4, 25 Pitch. Not quite the top end as a Fury 3 but without a BB prop it's the best hole shot, mid range and handling prop on my 520C. Mine is super loaded w/ 10' blades, 4 group 31 batteries, spare prop, and a mobile BPS store up front.

Probably s/b fine with your current set up....Tempest plus is a great prop.....so is a fury 3 or 4 but the 4 will be slower as stated above and a good Fury may be faster....

Have the same rig and ran the Fury 4 25P. Ended up settling on a Fury 4 24P. Here in Texas, the summer heat kept my RPMs too low to run the 25P. But, all in all, the Fury 4 is my pick over the Fury 3.

I owned a couple 520c with mercury pro xs 2. I like the 25 fury 4 but it slung blades so I went away from them. For me, my best prop was a 25 fury 3 drilled with 3 5/16ths holes. Both boats were mid 75 with 1 person loaded and 73-74 with 2 anytime of the year.

Slung blades, as in more than one? Any idea why that was happening.

Yes. I went through 2. Do a google search. Its pretty common on a Fury 4. Mercury warranted both of them, but I just couldn't stand the feeling it would happen again. Both times I was not running wide open and was not running the jack plate high. Props were in new condition. They performed very well. No it wasn't the fastest prop but it just provided a good balance.

    dgreenfishing-

I run 2016 520c/250xs-2 , Fury 3-25 3-5/16 holes (extra vents). Great improvement on hole shot.

I have never seen over 69 with 2 people and pretty light load. Never seen over71.4 alone. I run 8" atlas at 10-12 WOT, 1/2 Trim on gauge.

What settings do you run to reach 73-75mph in a 520?

What kind of altitude do you have up there?
Here in Nebraska i had to drop to a 24 fury because of the altitude. When I went south to fish, i could run the 25.

If you have any questions, PM me

I run a 2018 Z520c with 250 ProXs 2S. I run a 25" Fury with three additional ventilation holes drilled in it. With just me, tackle, and 1/2 a tank a gas, I can hit 74 mph in optimal conditions. I am very happy with hole shot and overall performance. Run at 11 on the Atlas guage. I do have Power Poles but switched to Lithium TM batteries which saved 75 lbs. Prior to Lithium switch, boat ran 72 mph.

Your 25 tempest is an excellent prop and is worth trying. It would be my second choice on a Z520c.

I don't have that boat anymore. If I remember correctly, I usually ran it at 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 on the tape. I think that's 9-11 on the gauge. I live in north Alabama so i don't know our elevation. Both boats ran about the same. Now I don't carry a ton of tackle. What I do carry fits in one rear storage and day box. 15 or so rods. These boats doesn't need full trim. Needs to be turning 5900. They will do it.

A Fury 3 with extra venting will be the best performing and fastest wheel for that setup. Run it at 3.25" pad to center.......................RR

Just the other day I was wondering whatever happened to Roger/GreenHornet/GhostComanche and 'XpressSpanky'. Good to see you're still around!!!!

OP .......... I like the Fury 4 on my Z520, eventhough I'm swinging it on an Evinrude. I've not tried the 3 blade Fury.

I run a 25 fury 4 in the cooler months and a 24 fury 4 when it’s warmer on my 2016 z520c. My boat was a dog with the 25 3 blade with the load I carry. Very happy with both 4 blades.
