I’ve got a 175 carbed Vmax and it’s been great for the 2 years I’ve had it. Going on 21 years old.

I have a carbed 150, best motor i have owned. Only issue...loves to drink.

Just make sure compression #'s are good.

The carbed VMAX motors were rock solid. I had a '98 150 that was great. It burned the gas but ran great right up until I traded in the old boat last year. It was a little cold natured but otherwise cranked up easy and pushed my old 286 18' Sprint a touch over 60mph. There are a lot of variables with older motors but if it looks like it's been maintained and has good compression then I wouldn't hesitate.

I have the same motor, great motor. A little grumpy on cold mornings but nothing a little choke won’t fix. It is thirsty but runs great.

I have no issues starting mine in the cold. Have a 2007 150 VMAX.

Prime the gas, hold the choke in, open the throttle a little bit and crank it until it fires. Usually takes one or two tries.
