    SS3D side/down imaging question

I’ve read a lot about the SS3D setups but seem to find contradicting stories about compatibility with certain units. I currently have Gen2 HDS12’s with an LSS2 module and transducer for the console. I realize the Gen2’s are not capable of doing 3D but read where with the SS3D module and transducer it would still give me the improved side and down imaging SS3D is known for. Also read where Gen2 has no capability of running the SS3D in any capacity. Anybody know which I’m reading is correct?

Yes you can view side and down from the 3d with gen 2. You won't have the 3d function which is fine because no one uses it anyways.

If theyre not using 3D than either their fishing type doesnt require it, or they dont know how to tune it right.

3D is as useful a tool as any of the other features on a fishfinder.

Thanks for the info. Obviously it has the functionality to work together for side and down but in your opinion, is it better than the LSS2 module and transducer on 800khz?

I hardly ever used LSS-2 on 800kHz at all, so I’m not the man to ask. :)

LSS2 use 455 and scan 4 times depth. See something mark it and then run closer to it with 800. Run SIDE SCAN, DOWN SCAN and CHART on a 3 panel screen.

I’m asking if changing to the SS3D transducer and only having 455 is a better image than LSS2 on 800.

I just snatched those pics off of another board. I have no idea about the details. But they do look good though. Very seldom you see such a good Lowrance screenshots.

The best SS3D images I ever got were with the original 54.1.85 on the module and 18.2 on my carbons. But this caused waypoint sharing issues, so they all got upgraded to 18.3. This caused me to actually play with the pallets and contrast to get things dialed in. If I get board this summer I might play around with other combinations but I didn’t bother with losing any fishing time over it last year.
