    Hydrasports 196 with 175 Johnson

Okay so let me start by saying I am running a hydra sports 196 with a 2004 Johnson 175 carb. Running a 22p raker. 5600 rpms at 57-58 mph tournament loaded. I feel like I should be able to get more speed out of this set up. Everyone I’ve asked said the 196 was a fast hull. I’ve tried a 25p renegade, 24p raker. They’ve all performed about the same. The 22 is the fastest out of the whole but none of the three really struggled. I’ve tried raising and lowering the motor as well. Any suggestions? I did run a 24p fury 3 before I got the motor running right and it would do 54 mph at 4600 rpms and was only running on 5 cylinders at wot. (Had a 150 carb on one cylinder, took me forever to figure that out) I thought about getting another fury now that the engine is running like it’s supposed to.

Rakers are usually turds out of the box, but a skilled hand can make them run really well. Steve's prop at lake fork can do it, and I'm sure Mark on the prop page can too.

You know your raker needs love, if you're running WFO, and when you back off a bit it grabs and starts lifting.
